About Me:
My name is Max Newberry. I graduated from Eastern Illinois University with a bachelor's degree in English Language Arts with a Teacher Certification in Secondary Education and a minor in Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies. During student teaching, I taught English 2, Honors English 3, Cinema Studies. I am now going into my 3rd year of coaching our cheerleading and teaching English 1, Honors English 1, and English 2.

My Teaching Philosophy:
1. Create Personalized Learning Experiences
Provide student choice on reading, writing, and assessment tasks.
Apply differentiated instruction to support various learning styles.
Develop and monitor individual writing goals.
2. Support a Student-Centered Learning Environment
Incorporate active learning strategies, such as WebQuests, student-led discussion, literature circles, scavenger hunts, and group projects.
3. Promote Authentic Instruction
Focus on real-world skills, such as email writing, media analysis, website-building, public speaking, scholarship writing, and collaborative tasks.
Utilize texts that encourage diverse thought and reflection.
